Question

I have 2 patients that came into the office, both on their 2nd week of the VLCD, with complaints of headache but main concern was feeling their heart pulsate in the ears and head.  Both wanted their blood pressures taken.  Both are on hypertensive meds.  Their BPs were slightly up their last two visits, today they were normal, as was their heart rates.

They also were both concerned about the sodium intake in the products.  They know not to consume more than one soup a day.  Another woman said her strawberry beverage tasted salty.   Is this all normal?

Answer

This complaint happens in day to day medicine.  I do not feel this is related to the salt intake.  I would reassure if BP is good and discuss the progress of the VLCD in 1 week. —Christopher Case, MD
